Happy New Year and Bah Winter…

OK, I love to see snow around the holidays. Just makes it feel like we’re officially in that time of the year.

But once we get into January, no thanks. Would it be too much trouble to start spring? 🙂 Can I start growing some palm trees in the backyard. Yes, it’s the winter stir crazies. ARRGH

But I am keeping quite busy.

Some updates on what’s cooking:
– I have two children’s books out, one on the Detroit Tigers and another on the Toronto Blue Jays. They were tons of fun to write, especially on the Tigers. My hope is the kids will love them and continue to become strong readers for a lifetime. If you’re interested in ordering, email me or do it yourself through ADBO Publishing. If you want your book personalized, please email me. Working on two more books as we speak, more into on the TBA when I can discuss them…
– I’m still writing every day for the NY Times, for their great NHL and NBA blogs. Stuff also for print.
– I am teaching fun class at the University of Detroit Mercy, on sports communications. It’s always interesting to get a group of people together, with different interests and experiences, and head off on a learning adventure. Maybe the next great sports scribe of the future is sitting in front of me!
– And still writing interesting features for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s official site: teamusa.org.
– Follow me on twitter at joannecgerstner.

I’m starting to dream of crushing forehands again, a clear signal (to me anyways!) that I am feeling stronger with my knee. It’s only three months out from my ACL recon, which is nothing in terms of the recovery process. So I need to stay patient, grasshopper. I’m mentally raring to go, but the body need to get a lot stronger to do what I want it to do. But so far, so very good. I am very, very lucky indeed.

So stay warm everybody, and dream of spring training to give us all warmth and hope….
